DIY: Pumpkin And Lemon Holiday Candles

These festive pumpkin and lemon candles are so easy to make, and great to decorate with for the holidays. Here’s how!

Homemade candles have a nice comforting feel during the holidays. These DIY pumpkin and lemon candles are a nice twist on traditional candle molds, proving that you can make candles out of practically anything. They would  be great for a dinner party or adorning your Thanksgiving table. You can add fragrant oil to any of them to bring out the smell of the mold. Bonus: the lemons are so strong, they smell without any added fragrance!

Supplies:

Small bag of paraffin wax pellets

Packages of wicks

Small pumpkin or lemon or practically any other fruit (lemons are fun because the strong scent comes through nicely)

Scissors

Carving knife and spoon

Place the paraffin wax pellets in a double boiler over low heat. Keep on eye on them while you’re cutting your pumpkin. The wax melts in about 10 minutes. Caution: be very careful melting wax, if it gets too hot it could cause a fire. As soon as it melts, take it off the heat and pour into molds.

We are starting with the mini pumpkin. Cut it in half with the knife.

Scrape out the seeds. I used a small grapefruit spoon which has teeth on the sides and makes the scraping job easier.

You want it pretty cleaned out.

Do the same with the lemons, or other fruit you may want to use. Apples? Pears? Oranges?

Trim the sick to about 3 inches long.

Place a wick at the bottom of each hollowed out pumpkin/fruit.

Pour the melted wax into the pumpkins or fruit. You can add fragrance at this point as well. The hot wax will make the wicks tilt over and fall to the side. That’s okay for right now.

In about 10-15 minutes the wax will be hardened enough to move the wick to the middle again. If it’s still too liquid to support it straight up, try again in a few minutes.

Let them harden overnight and you’ve got some pretty and festive candles for the holidays!
