Olivia Wilde. Kerry Washington. The expectant actresses are as celebrated for being fashionable as they are for their acting chops. Did they live up to expectation and reign the red carpet at this year's Academy Awards?
In a word: Yes. If a "best dressed soon-to-be mama" category were suddenly created, it would be no small task choosing a winner. Wilde looked absolutely ravishing in what could be considered the maternity equivalent of the little black dress. Granted, it wasn't "little" – Wilde's elegant Valentino features a columnar silhouette that evoked a pristine, nearly old-Hollywood type of glamour. Delicate Lorraine Schwartz jewelry finished off her masterful look to perfection.
And Washington stunned moments later in a deep lavender gown with a silvery finish, custom designed by Jason Wu. The elegant drape recalled the effortless sex appeal of Grecian styles, while the modestly sexy slit and lavish drape lent the look a modern feel just made for the woman who desires comfort above all else. Finishing her look were sparkling jewels designed by Jennifer Meyer.
So which of these looks ultimately took the title of best dressed pregnant actress of Oscars 2014? It's safe to say both women turned heads with their poised appearances on the red carpet, and both were standouts simply by virtue of their radically different color choices. In a sea of pastels and neutrals, these ladies held their own with their dramatic hues.
