The “Could It Be Magic” singer married his wife, his high school sweetheart Susan Deixler, in the judge’s chambers in the City Hall around 1964. They reportedly met while studying at Eastern District High School in Brooklyn.
However, the Grammy Award winner parted ways with his “perfect wife” after just one year of marriage, with the nuptials annulled in 1965. Their marriage officially ended just before the Grammy winner became famous as an artist under Columbia Records (via Mirror).
He and his wife did not have any children together. However, Susan did go on to have two children of her own later.
In 1978, Barry met the love of his life, Garry, a television producer. The two started seeing each other shortly after. At the time, Garry had one daughter, Kirsten Kief, from his first marriage. Garry later became the manager of Barry Manilow Productions and wed the “Mandy” singer in 2014. Following this, Barry became a doting stepdad to Kirsten.
Talking about his daughter, the songwriter told the Chicago Sun-Times in May 2017, “We have a daughter, Garry’s biological daughter, Kirsten, and we raised her together all these years…Kirsten’s turned out to be one of the most beautiful and smartest women you’ll ever meet.”
Barry Manilow Is Now a Grandfather
In October 2023, Manilow revealed to People that he is now a grandfather. Barry Manilow’s daughter became a first-time mom as she “adopted a little girl.” The singer is elated and enjoying his new role as grandfather.
He told the outlet, “I’ve never, ever thought about having a baby or having anything to do with [being] a father or any of that…This is a brand-new experience for me, and I really am enjoying it.”
Though not much is known about Barry Manilow’s daughter’s personal life, he did step out with Kirsten at the 1999 premiere of Cabaret. She was also seen in another rare red carpet appearance with her stepfather at the 2006 Emmy Awards. As per Daily Mail, Kirsten works for her stepdad’s production company.
