If you are new to this concept, Galentine’s Day is Love Day, but for the “gals” in your life. You can celebrate Galentine’s Day with all the ladies who have made a difference in your life and have supported you through thick and thin. It could be your mom, mother-in-law, sister, aunt, daughter, or girlfriend. This day is meant to be spent with your girl gang, thanking them for their love and support, irrespective of whether they are single, married, or in a relationship.
The concept of Galentine’s Day is relatively new. It gained popularity in 2010 through the sitcom “Parks and Recreation.” It started as a joke written into an episode of the television show for their lead character, Leslie Knope, played by Amy Poehler.
In episode 16 of season 2, Leslie Knope invites her seven girlfriends to celebrate them on “Galentine’s Day.” She called it “the best day of the year,” exclaiming, “Every February 13, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast style.”
Soon, the Galentine’s Day concept clicked with the audience, and since then, women have gotten together to celebrate this day with much laughter and delicious food. Think of it as a date with your girlfriends because their companionship is as important as your partner’s.
Celebrating Galentine’s Day with your girlfriends
With all the stress of day-to-day life, mommy duties, wifey duties, and office work, there are times when you want to escape it all. A little pep talk with your girl gang helps charge you up and prepares you to take up new challenges head-on.
It’s because you know that no matter what, your girls will always support you and be ready to help you whenever you need them. This is one of the main reasons you should celebrate Galentine’s Day with your girl gang. Appreciate the women in your life and tell them how much they mean to you through action.
How to celebrate Galentine’s Day with your girls
Galentine’s Day is about spreading love and joy amongst your girls, forgetting about the stresses of life during the celebration. Focus on the relationships that bring you happiness, and enjoy the day together with some fun activities to make it even more memorable. Plus, a little unwinding time is more than welcome for all the mamas out there.
1. Plan a picnic
Plan a get-together with your girls at your favorite hangout spot and spend the rest of the day chatting, walking down memory lane, soaking in the sun, exploring the city, or shopping. To celebrate Galentine’s Day more memorably, write a thank you note for your girls to show your appreciation. If budget is not a constraint, give them some personalized gifts.
2. Book a spa day
Nothing is more relaxing than a spa day. Book one with your friends and spend the rest of the day rejuvenating and enjoying each other’s company. Head to a nearby spa resort to spend a few days with each other if you and your gang can spare a day or two. If you want to celebrate Valentine’s Day with your partner, plan it such that you spend Galentine’s Day in the spa resort and are back in time to go on a romantic date with your lover.
3. Plan an at-home date night
If you and your girls can’t spend the entire day together due to work commitments, plan an all-girls date night at home to celebrate Galentine’s Day together. Prepare a lavish spread, put on some music, and dance the night away. You can also watch movies together or have karaoke night with your gang to end the day on a high note.
Apart from this, you can join a hobby class for a day, paint, cook, and more to celebrate Galentine’s Day. So, mommies, how will you celebrate Galentine’s Day on February 13th, and with whom?
