Infant Neck Floats Are A Thing And We’re Obsessed

Water is a like a tranquilizer dart for my son. Starting at five weeks he was able to sleep seven hours after bath time (we were cleared by our doctor to allow him to sleep through the night). Needless to say a bath was part of our nightly bedtime routine from a very young age, so I was immediately intrigued when I saw Otteroo on Instagram. Otteroo makes baby neck floats for babies 2+ weeks.

The floats don’t look comfortable at all, so I had my doubts, but I had to try it anyway because…. look how cute… Plus, many things look totally uncomfortable for adults, but babies love them. For example, I certainly wouldn’t want to be swaddled, but my son – and most babies – love it. And, like the swaddle, babies and toddlers love Otteroo. It’s very, very important, however, to not take your eye off your child even for a second when they’re in one of these floats. It takes practically no water for a baby to drown and an air-filled floatie can potentially deflate, putting a child at risk of drowning in LITERALLY seconds.

This brings us to another important point: don’t go for fakes. Otteroo has become very popular and, as such, many knockoffs have popped up. This isn’t the kind of thing where you want to go for a knockoff. It only takes one bad seam to cause a nightmare. Otteroo is the trusted brand for neck floats. In fact, their floaties were originally intended as medical devices to aid disabled infants with aquatherapy.

Bottom line: Otteroo is a fun bath or pool-time floatie you can feel good (and excited!) about using with your little one. Just make sure you do so when there are ZERO distractions and you are in arms reach of your baby at all times.
