"Modern Family" actress Sofia Vergara opened up about her battle with cancer.
Sofia talked with Self magazine about the things she's thankful for, like her health, her successful TV show, and her sense of humor. She shared about her cancer diagnosis and treatment: "Seven years ago, I found out I had thyroid cancer. When they tell you that you have cancer, you panic. I had my thyroid gland removed, then radiation. It was hard, but now I'm in remission, and the scar doesn't bother me". Sofia kept her sense of humor throughout her battle: "After the surgery in 2003, I had my son (Manolo, 18) Photoshop a Frankenstein scar on my neck and sent it to my friends and said, 'I'm fine, I look perfect!' It was really funny."
Sofia has worked in the entertainment industry for 20 years and took a leap of faith when she moved to Los Angeles six years ago: "I said I'll try it for six months, and if nothing happens, I'll go home. What is the worst that can happen? Now I'm nominated for an Emmy, so it worked out. The only way to gain something is to take a risk at something. I've been rejected for many jobs, many movies, but I don't take it as a failure. I just move on." Sofia didn't win her individual Emmy, but the entire cast of "Modern Family" won for Outstanding Comedy Series.
"Modern Family" returns for its second season tonight. I have to admit that we're huge fans of the show; are you tuning in?
