Singer Jewel and her husband Ty Murray open up about welcoming their son in an unplanned manner and what life as new parents has been like so far.
Jewel shares in this week’s People magazine her surprising delivery of son Kase Townes and how they plan to parent without help. The singer gave birth to Kase via emergency C-Section on July 11th – not exactly what she had planned: “They always say, ‘Make a plan and God laughs,’ right?. We wanted a natural birth and I was committed to that. I studied hypnobirthing.” A routine checkup revealed that his heartbeat dropped whenever contractions kicked in, so the doctor decided a C-section was necessary: “I feel lucky to be pregnant in the modern age where they could actually tell he wasn’t well during those contractions. We felt thankful that we had good doctors and a good hospital nearby, and that everything was okay. I’m so lucky that we have a healthy baby boy. That’s all I cared about.”
The new mom is head over heels for her new bundle of joy: “I felt like somebody went to a cabinet, pulled out a perfect baby and handed him over. It’s overwhelming.”
Ty and Jewel have even decided to skip the extra help of a nanny: “Neither of us wants to have a nanny. Ty wants his relationship with Kase to be special, and the time you put in is part of that. I want to just soak up this time with him.”
