Angelina Jolie Takes Part in Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act With Daughter

Angelina Jolie expressed gratitude this week for the opportunity to present the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act to the Senate. The actor took to Instagram to share how important it was for her to share the day with her daughter, Zahara. Aside from it being a meaningful engagement for mother and daughter, Jolie says Zahara helps to “calm her nerves.”

Angelina Jolie Is No Stranger to Advocacy

With multiple foundations and a long history of human rights work, Jolie makes good use of her platform as an actor. In fact, one could argue that she’s just as known for her advocacy as she is for her acting.

Aside from her work in violence against women, Jolie receives regular recognition for other efforts. Which include conservation, female empowerment, children’s education, refugee treatment, and more.

Several of her foundations are named after her children. Including the Maddox Jolie-Pitt Foundation and the Shiloh Jolie-Pitt Foundation. In addition, she also heads up the Jolie-Pitt Foundation, which funds humanitarian efforts globally. It was kicked off with a $1 Million donation to both Global Action for Children and Doctors Without Borders, according to Hello.

Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act

Most of Jolie’s efforts are centered around children, including her work with the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act. Her role in the promotion of the bill is to address how domestic violence impacts children and the associated long-term trauma effect.

Zahara, Jolie’s daughter, seems to be following in her mother’s footsteps. Or, at the very least, is offering her full support. In Jolie’s Instagram post, she shared a photo of the pair together in Washington, D.C.

“Heading into the Senate’s introduction of the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act,” she wrote in the caption. “I’m grateful and humbled to join with dedicated advocated and legislators.”

From there, Jolie went on to express gratitude for her daughter’s support. “I’m also glad to share in the advocacy with Zahara,” she wrote. “And for her presence to calm my nerves before today’s press conference.” She further included the #NervousMom hashtag.
