Carlos Leon, who shares teen daughter Lourdes with Madonna, talks teenagers, Twilight, and fashion advice.
Over the years Carlos has been mum about his famous ex and their daughter, but he recently opened up to People and shared a few tidbits about parenthood.
“I’m forever grateful to [Madonna]. I have no regrets. I wouldn’t change anything. I got the best thing out of that relationship, and that’s my daughter. My daughter is everything to me.”
Carlos, a personal trainer and actor, says he knows it won’t be too much longer until Lourdes, now 14, starts dating. “I’m dreading it so much, because she’s my little girl. I want her to stay young forever. I’m already overprotective, so when the time comes, I will be ready to have a talk with the guy she brings through the door. He better be ready, because I’ll give him the rundown!”
He shares that while she may be the daughter of one of the most famous women in the world, Lourdes is a pretty typical teenage girl: “She loves to watch Harry Potter. It’s a favorite of hers. We can watch that 100 times – well, she can. Twilight is also pretty big at our house. She likes Robert Pattinson. She’s Team Edward all the way.”
Lourdes, who helped with the designs of Madonna’s Material Girl line for Macy’s, loves to give her dad fashion advice. He laughs: “Sometimes she will give me a hard time about my clothes. I wore a pair of jeans once, and they weren’t as skinny as I usually wear them, and she was like, ‘Oh my God, Dad, those pants are ugly. Please change your pants.’ They were too bootcut, so I changed.”
He says that one area he’s not so good with: discipline. “I’m a lenient dad. I’m very empathetic, and I’m good at listening to my daughter … I’m probably a bad dad when it comes to disciplining her.”
Carlos is starring in the new film “Immigration Tango”.
