14 Winter Movies You’ll Actually Want to Watch with Your Kids

Cool Runnings

A true family comedy that sneaks in the message that if you believe in yourselves—and each other—you can do whatever it is that you are determined to. I mean, c’mon, a Jamaican bobsled team? YEP. The action and humor (I heart John Candy!) will keep everyone giggling and cheering until the end.

Christmas Vacation

Fact: 1 in 5 houses in America has an ornament based on this movie on their tree. Okay, so that was more of a guess than a fact, but it is that killa della of a holiday flick. As long as your family can tolerate a bit of cursing, the ongoing speed bumps as the Griswolds attempts to prepare for a nice Christmas despite annoying guests and silly snafoo after snafoo will have you all rolling.

Eight Below

Beautifully shot and emotionally engaging, this film about a man, his dogs, and the fight to survive will get everyone cheering them on. Animal-loving little kids will squeal each time they see the sled dogs, and teenagers who are only used to seeing the late Paul Walker in his “The Fast and the Furious” role will get to know his more sensitive side. Overcoming obstacles! The bond between man and dog! You can’t lose!

How the Grinch Stole Christmas

Teens might pretend that they are too old for this 1966 classic, but they are lying liars full of lies who will stay in the room for all 26 minutes of Grinch’s transformation from fun-ruiner to a fella with a heart three sizes bigger and a fondness for an endearing little girl named Cindy Lou Who.

Home Alone

The chaos of the holidays makes everyone want to be by themselves for a while, so seeing 8-year-old Kevin whooping it up when he gets left behind is a hoot. And when the slapstick action starts once he realizes two screwball robbers want to break in? Nobody is safe from laughing out loud at his inventiveness. Typical John Hughes timelessness.
