Sports-loving locals support their home teams, including the second oldest AFL club in existence, and there are three independent football leagues running in the area. Also popular, the Geelong Racing Club which schedules 22 horse racing meetings annually, including the Geelong Cup in October. The city is home to baseball’s Bobcats, who play their home games at Geelong Baseball Centre in Waurn Ponds, and the Geelong Supercats basketball team that is based at The Arena stadium. Geelong regularly hosts internationally-televised triathlons and racing car events such as the Geelong Speed Trials. Sailing and yachting events, both competitive and recreational, take place in Corio Bay. Geelong also accommodates the Aussie sporting and outdoor lifestyle with numerous golf courses, sporting and recreational ovals, skateboard venues, and playing fields to compliment the nature-created areas for hiking and trekking, water skiing and swimming, rowing and kayaking, and excellent areas for fishing.
