prep time: 10 minutes
work time: about 20 minutes
total time: about 30 minutes
Ingredients:
- candy assortment (sprinkles, mini M&M’s, mini red hots, etc.)
- about 1 cup powdered sugar, divided
- 1 dozen sugar ice cream cones
- about 1 cup vanilla (white) frosting
- green food coloring (optional)
Preparation:
Step 1: Divide the candies by type and arrange each type of candy in small prep bowls.
Step 2: Measure out 3/4 a cup of the powdered sugar. Divide that amount in half putting each half into a smal prep bowl.
Step 3: Cover a large plate or baking sheet with foil.
Step 4: Spoon the one of the bowls of powdered sugar into a small mesh strainer. Hold the strainer over the foil-covered baking sheet and shake it gently all over the surface. It should look like a snowy ground when you’re done.
Step 5: Leave the frosting white if you’d like all of your trees to be covered in “snow.” If you’d like them to be green, simply add green food coloring to the frosting until it’s the desired color.
Step 6: Use a small off-set spatula to spread a thin layer of the frosting over the outside of the ice cream cones.
TIP: To move the frosted ice cream cones, place a finger on the top of the tip to tilt the cone slightly, then place one finger under the bottom edge. It’s best to place them directly on the “snow” covered plate or baking sheet before frosting them..
Step 7: Sprinkle or gently place your candy decorations on the “trees.”
Step 8: If your trees are green: Spoon the remaining 1/4 cup of powdered sugar into the small mesh strainer again and lightly shake it over the them to create a look of fresh snow on green trees. Enjoy!
