5 Ways Coffee Helps You Live Longer, Says Science

Coffee doesn’t just help you start your day; it actually helps you to live longer.

But coffee is much more than a magical energy elixir. It has hundreds of different compounds which have fantastic health benefits. So, when you’re having that coffee date, think of it less like getting together to catch up, and more as a one-on-one sharing of one the healthiest beverages on the planet.

A groundbreaking study published in the New England Journal of Medicine found that the more coffee people drank, the lower their risk of death.

5 ways coffee is helping you to live longer:

1. Coffee has antioxidants. Antioxidants are chemicals that protect the cell from damage, disease and aging. Coffee has more antioxidants than a serving of grape juice, blueberries, raspberries, or oranges. Roasting the coffee beans makes the antioxidants even more potent.

2. Coffee is good for your mental health. Studies have found that coffee reduces the risk of depression by 20 percent, and the risk of suicide by 53 percent.

3. Coffee can help prevent, treat and/or possibly reverse type 2 diabetes. The chlorogenic acid found in coffee reduces blood glucose levels by inhibiting its absorption into the small intestine. This prevents glucose from entering the blood stream and raising blood sugar. Chlorogenic acid also reduces blood sugar levels by increasing insulin.

4. Coffee can prevent heart disease. Coffee helps prevent the narrowing or hardening of the arteries.

5. Coffee may prevent liver disease. Italian researcher Dr. Carlo La Vecchia found that coffee affects the liver enzymes and protects it against liver cancer formation.
But that doesn’t mean go crazy and drink 12 cups a day— for the best results, drink 4-5 cups of coffee (preferably without cream and sugar.)

Drinking coffee could be one of the most enjoyable ways to prolong your life.
