There are a few things I always do as March begins and the weather starts to improve. My winter coats go up to our attic, and down come the summer dresses. I start shopping for summer sandals. I dig out my sunglasses…usually just to lose them at the bottom of my bag, but the intention is there. Perhaps all a little premature as once I step out the door I realize I need the winter coat more than the other three items, but there are three spring beauty updates I make, which make it feel like summer’s en route no matter the weather.

Salt Spray

As if you’ve just stepped out of the sea, shaken your hair back, and then run off for a cocktail, a salt spray can give you the tousled texture of holiday hair without any of the sun damage. Simply spray on damp hair, ruffle, and rough-dry, or amp up dry hair with a couple of spritzes through the lengths, and rub between your fingertips. Kerastase Spray A Porter £23

I think of Brigitte Bardot on the French Riviera—that summery insouciance we all love her for. You don’t need anything else (other than a little mascara)—a beautiful cat eye adds definition and a bit of a rock chick kick. I recommend newbies start with a pen-like applicator. Pink Polish
The perfect partner to floral prints and a warm tan, a girlish flash of pastel pink shadow & nail polish makes for the prettiest statement. Work a sweep of matte pink shadow across the lid, blending up to the socket and matching up a soft blush and a nude pink lipstick. Keep nails short, though—too long and it might look a bit dated.
