Splurge vs. Steal: 6 Celeb-Approved Eye Creams That’ll Erase Dark Under Eye Circles

Previously I had the chance to tap some amazing celebrity makeup artists and beauty experts for their favorite de-puffing eye creams for new moms. Their splurge and save picks were total godsends that tackle fourth-trimester zombie eyes!

Now that I have a toddler, I’m fortunately out of the trenches of newborn cluster feeding, but that doesn’t mean I don’t need a pick-me-up to get me through bedtime excuses and 3 AM calls for warm milk. I always like to have a roster of drugstore brands to try on a whim, as well as an indulgent mix of lotions and potions for my at-home spa nights.

So I reached out to my friends again, and just had to ask… What happens when their clients (the likes of mommies Jessica Alba, Brittney Spears, and Nikki Taylor) arrive on set after a night of partying, jet-lagging, or just good old kiddie shenanigans?

Their answers may surprise you! Here are some often used and rarely shared supplements, international drug store brands, and surprisingly mainstream recipes to combat the very worst beauty gripes that celeb-mommas face on a very regular basis.

From Sally Duvall, named one of NYC’s top makeup artists by Allure and New York Magazine, and previous assistant to Kevyn Aucoin. Sally has worked with celebrities like Sarah Jessica Parker, Kate Moss, Heidi Klum, Britney Spears, and Nicole Kidman. She specializes in finding the balance between looking beautiful on camera and flawless in person.

SPLURGE: “Buy the NeoStrata Bionic Eye Cream  $65… It works, that is all I can say. This is a little known brand, but I swear by anything I have ever used by them. In Canada you can get this at any drugstore, but here in the USA you have to order online or get from a dermatologist. They use high amounts of glycolic acid and lactiobionic acid, and it’s amazing!”

STEAL: “You can get SeaBuckthorn Oil for $15 at Whole Foods or any health food store. SeaBuckthorn oil is pure, simple, and natural and has been used by European/Eastern European women for hundreds of years. It’s gorgeous and so good for dry, puffy eyes and dark circles! I take it orally as well in capsule form and put the actual berries in smoothies.”

From Sharon Becker, owner of SB Beauty, a namesake firm she developed as a former actor and events producer. Sharon pairs her talents with poise, and channels her former career talents of working well under pressure when on photo shoots with models, brides at their weddings, and NYC notables on high profile projects.

SPLURGE (and not that much of one at $35): “Many makeup artists love Embryolisse for its non-irritating and highly effective skin care. Their Eye Contour Treatment is no different. It’s smoothing, very gentle, and, most importantly, effective!”

STEAL: “I can’t believe I love something from The Body Shop, but this Vitamin E Eye Cream is the real deal! It hydrates, fills in lines, de-puffs (key for when you are up all night or have that extra glass of red wine you desperately need as a new mom). It’s truly impressive, and there’s no big aroma, either!”

From Nikki Robison, the brains behind Gloss and Glam, a team of on-location beauty experts that attend to models, celebrities, and NYC mommas in need. Nikki has worked with celeb-moms Brittney Spears, Jessica Alba, and Nikki Taylor on their beauty looks and needs.

SPLURGE: “My Splurge is Dermalogica Total Eye Care with SPF 15, $48. It’s great because not only does it reduce puffiness and fine lines, but it also brightens to help hide dark circles. Obviously, the icing on the cake is the SPF, something a lot of new moms forget about themselves when they’re trying to get little ones out the door.”

STEAL: “If you need a great drugstore find, L’Oreal RevitaLift® Anti-Wrinkle + Firming Night Cream is it! This cream has great firming and anti-aging properties. And because you use it at night, you don’t have to worry about it smudging your makeup. It’s the perfect last-minute addition to your dwindling, new mom ‘nighttime beauty routine.'”
