I’m all about natural deodorants right now. See, I had my second baby a couple of months ago, and the postpartum hormones have turned my once inactive arm pits into miniature caves of icky doom. I can practically smell myself moving across the room, and the odor is just gross no matter how often I clean and exfoliate my pits. But all of that said, as I’m breastfeeding this new baby and trying to lead a generally “cleaner” lifestyle, I’m determined to give some natural deodorants a try before resorting to the chemical kind.
After consulting with some crunchy mama friends from across the country and the world, I came up with a list of the best natural deodorants on the market. You might be pleasantly surprised at the price range, too. While many natural beauty products tend to cost more than their traditional counterparts, these start at $4, so they’re easy on your skin and they won’t bust your budget.

I love supporting mom-and-pop businesses, like this Oregon-based small shop. Their natural, handmade deodorant is produced in small batches and contains a blend of coconut oil, shea butter, and vitamin E to soothe the skin and combat odor. Schmidt's Naturals
By far one of the most popular choices among my natural mama friends, Schmidt's is easy to find (they stock it at Target!) and it works great. Gliding on with no sticky residue, it's the most like a standard deodorant of those I've tried. And while they offer a ton of awesome fragrances seasonally, the hands-down favorite is Bergamot and Lime. All of them are scented with natural essential oils.
Available at: Schmidt's Naturals , $8.99

No Pong
An Australian favorite, this natural wonder now ships to the United States. No Pong natural deodorant is available in both traditional and low-fragrance formulas, so it's ideal for those who want to go natural or REALLY natural, and it uses beeswax and coconut oil as main combatants against odor.

A thousand time yes would be my reply, and that includes their natural Eucalyptus deodorant free of aluminum and other harsh ingredients found in traditional deodorants. It's also available in a travel size, perfect for stowing in your purse for high-stress days.

Coconut Oil
Want to go "totally" natural? Make your own deodorant! In the era of coconut-oil-cures-all, I was intrigued yet skeptical when a crunchy friend suggested I slather the stuff on my pits. As per her advice, I did so for three days before noticing a real difference, but it definitely lessened the odor within a few uses. Don't do it if you need to be super-dry though; this DIY solution is more about odor than wetness.Photo: Getty
