Nicole Kidman opens up about her marriage to (and split from) Tom Cruise.
The Oscar-nominated actress sat down for a candid interview with Marie Claire UK, sharing a bit of insight into their relationship and her thoughts on the split. “We were very, very tight and that’s why we lasted 10 years which is a good amount of time, particularly when you get married at 23. That was a great relationship. I think it ran its course.”
She says that even though Tom was one of the most famous men in the world, she didn’t like to think of herself as a celebrity. “You don’t think of yourself like that. I knew he was a really big star, but after a while, to get to a real place in a relationship, that has to wear off. As a couple we were very private. I was never seeking to be a celebrity, but I was prepared to do that for love.”
Nicole says that until she met husband Keith Urban, she wasn’t sure she’d ever fall in love and marry again. “I was really damaged and not sure whether [love and marriage] was ever going to happen again to me.” She’s now content living on a 36-acre home in Tennessee with Keith and their children. “I’m crazy in love. I think you can live anywhere and do anything when you’re crazy in love!”
I think it’s great that Nicole and Tom have positive things to say about each other. I’m sure it makes a world of difference for their kids, too.
