Even though Miley Cyrus is officially an adult, her dad is still worried sick about her.
Billy Ray Cyrus opens up in the latest issue of GQ magazine, giving a very candid interview that probably won’t make the Disney bosses too happy to read. In it, the celebrity dad shares that he’s afraid for his super star daughter and his fight to keep her on the right road. The tabloids were abuzz after Miley was photographed smoking the legal but still questionable salvia from a bong, and then throwing her 18th birthday party at a bar, which Billy didn’t attend.
“I’m scared for her. She’s got a lot of people around her that’s putting her in a great deal of danger. I know she’s 18, but I still feel like as her daddy I’d like to try to help. Take care of her just a little bit, to at least get her out of danger. I want to get her sheltered from the storm. Stop the insanity just for a minute. When you go through what she’s been through, it takes a beating on you. And there comes a point where you just got to step back.”
Billy also felt the need to set things straight about his daughter’s money. Most people assume that somehow he’s earning a profit from Miley, but that’s not the case. He says: “For the record, to set it straight, I want to tell you: I’ve never made a dime off of Miley. You got a lot of people have made percentages off of her. I’m proud to say to this day I’ve never made one commissioned dollar, or dime, off of my daughter.”
He shares his regret over “Hannah Montana“: “The damn show destroyed my family. And I sit there and go, ‘Yeah, you know what? Some gave all.’ It is my motto, and guess what? I have to eat that one. I some-gave-all’d it all right. I some-gave-all’d it while everybody else was going to the bank. It’s all sad.”
As parents we can only do so much to keep our kids safe and on the right track and I’m sure the interference of dozens of “handlers” in the industry must be a daunting thing to deal with – even for parents who’ve been in the entertainment business as long as Billy Ray and Tish have been.
