Catherine Zeta-Jones Doesn’t Regret Coming Forward With Her Bipolar Disorder Diagnosis

Catherine Zeta-Jones opens up about her battle with Bipolar II disorder.

Catherine revealed last week that she had checked herself into a mental health facility for about a week to get some help with her Bipolar disorder before she headed off to film her two new movies. She shared with People that she wanted to be open and honest about her battle with the mental illness. “This is a disorder that affects millions of people and I am one of them. If my revelation of having bipolar II has encouraged one person to seek help, then it is worth it. There is no need to suffer silently and there is no shame in seeking help.”

A close friend of Catherine’s shared that as Michael Douglas was recovering from his battle with cancer, she could tell things weren’t okay with Catherine: “The simple things would just seem overwhelming, like going out to dinner. There was just a little piece of her chipped away. It was hard to watch because I knew how hard she was trying.”

Catherine starts work on her new projects this week and is feeling good.
