If you’re looking for something to distract you while you bake the Easter ham, here’s a look at the newest flicks in theaters and on DVD.
In theaters today (4/22/11):
1. Water for Elephants (PG-13)
Starring Robert Pattinson, Christoph Waltz, and Reese Witherspoon
“A veterinary student abandons his studies after his parents are killed and joins a traveling circus as their vet.”
*Highly recommend reading the book first!
2. Madea’s Big Happy Family (PG-13)
Starring Tyler Perry, Loretta Devine, and Bow Wow
“Madea jumps into action when her niece, Shirley, receives distressing news about her health. All Shirley wants is to gather her three adult children around her and share the news as a family. But Tammy, Kimberly and Byron are too distracted by their own problems. It’s up to Madea and Aunt Bam, to gather the clan together and make things right the only way she knows how: with a lot of tough love, laughter – and the revelation of a long-buried family secret. “
3. The Greatest Movie Ever Sold (PG-13)
Starring Morgan Spurlock
“A documentary about branding, advertising and product placement that is financed and made possible by brands, advertising and product placement. “
New on DVD & BLU-RAY (4/19)
1. The King’s Speech (R)
Starring Colin Firth, Helena Bonham Carter, and Geoffrey Rush
“The story of King George VI of Britain, his impromptu ascension to the throne and the speech therapist who helped the unsure monarch become worthy of it.”
2. Rabbit Hole (PG-13)
Starring Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckhart
“Life for a happy couple is turned upside down after their young son dies in an accident. “
3. Gulliver’s Travels (PG)
Starring Jack Black, Jason Segel, Emily Blunt, and Amanda Peet
“Travel writer Lemuel Gulliver takes an assignment in Bermuda, but ends up on the island of Liliput, where he towers over its tiny citizens.”
*I’m not a prude by any stretch, but I wouldn’t recommend Gulliver’s Travels for younger kids without viewing it on your own first.
