As if we needed another reason to adore celebrity dad David Beckham! The soccer star has joined the Paris Saint-Germain football (soccer to Americans) team and won’t keep a penny of the paycheck!
David signed on with the team today during a press conference in Paris. His contract is a short one that lasts only through June 30, 2013. He shared that he was excited to help the team grow. “I am very honored. I chose Paris because I can see what the club is trying to do. I can see what the players are trying to bring in. It’s an exciting city; it always has been. But now they have a club that will have a lot of success for the next 10, 15, 20 years. I’m not saying I will be playing then, but for now, to be a part of something that is growing is exciting.”
The best part of the deal is that Beckham won’t be keeping his salary – approximately $1 million per month! He shared that it will be going to a children’s charity in the city. “My salary will go towards a local children’s charity in Paris. It’s something I’m not sure has been done before, but something I’m very passionate about. Children and the charity side of things and so is the club, and so we came together.”
David says that Victoria and their four children, Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz, and Harper will not be making the move to Paris. The family moved back to London a while ago, when David’s contract with the L.A. Galaxy ended and the kids are in school in London once again.
