Heading home from delivering twins, Chelsea Hare tried to be a good samaritan and ended up struck by a car. According to WMAR Baltimore, the brand new Maryland mom stopped to help a man who had just been struck by a hit-and-run when she was hit, herself.

Thankfully, Hare’s twins were not with her, as they were taken home in another vehicle, and Hare herself was not fatally injured.
A Hit-and-Run After Delivering Twins
Hare’s aunt, Bobbie Siperko, spoke with WMAR about the miraculous incident.
It happened around 11 pm on January 19th, 2022, near a convenience store that Hare had stopped at on her way home. Seeing someone injured in the road, from a hit-and-run, she drove over to protect him with her own car while she went to flag down a nearby police officer.
“The last thing she remembers was the police officer rolling down his window and then somebody came between her and the police officer and hit her,” Siperko explains. From the force of the hit, Hare was thrown 50 feet.
“She broke her pelvis in five places. She broke her leg in two places,” Siperko says, further explaining the severe injuries Hare suffered. “I don’t know how she didn’t get paralyzed, or get brain damage. We were all saying that was a miracle.”
A Long Road to Recovery
Currently, Hare is recovering at a shock trauma facility in Baltimore but isn’t entirely out of the woods. Siperko says her primary fear is that “she may never be able to take care of her babies.”
“She is faced with not even knowing how long it will be before she can see her babies no less hold her babies or feed them or do anything for them,” she said. “It’s sad.”
At this time, she is expected to make an exceptional recovery, though. So, for Siperko, her concerns are much more practical and financial. Hare usually works as a barber and a waitress. With these kinds of injuries, however, returning to work is a long way out.
In order to help, the family created a GoFundMe page. All of the support received thus far — over $8,000 — has been overwhelming. But more is needed.
