Easy DIY Polymer Clay Necklace for Daughter’s Day Gifting

If you are looking for a Daughter’s Day gift idea that you can DIY from scratch, nothing can beat a handmade polymer clay necklace or earring. This piece of jewelry is classy, unique, and sentimental. The DIY necklace or earring requires minimal materials and can be made in a matter of a few hours. You can customize the jewelry however you like and write sweet little messages or their initials on the pendants to make the gift all the more special for your daughter.

Materials

  • 1 pack Sculpey Premo DIY Starter Kit – Fashion Icon
  • Clay roller
  • Polymer clay knife tool
  • Wood modeling tool
  • Sculpey oven-safe work mat
  • Clasps
  • Jump rings
  • Chains

Note: Depending on the type of jewelry (necklace or earring) you are making, you will require a combination of the last three materials listed here (clasps, jump rings, and chains).

Procedure

  1. To make the DIY polymer clay necklace as a Daughter’s Day gift, condition Sculpey Premo and place it on an oven-safe work mat. Roll flat until about ¼’’ thick.
  2. Place the jewelry template over the rolled clay. Then, cut out the desired shape with the needle tool.
  3. Utilize the wood modeling tool to make indentations on the clay for added dimension.
  4. Use the needle tool to create holes to string your charms (or holes for jump rings if you are making earrings instead).
  5. Place the mat onto a baking sheet and bake at 275 degrees Fahrenheit for 30 minutes per ¼” of clay thickness. Then, remove it from the oven and allow the jewelry to cool completely.
  6. Apply paint or glaze to finished pieces to create a different finish or texture if your daughter is a fan of colorful jewelry.
  7. Using a needle nose or jewelry pliers, loop a clasp or jump ring through the clay, and attach to other pieces as necessary.

Voila, your gift for Daughter’s Day is ready! Depending on what you are making, a necklace, earring, or a set consisting of both, use the clay pieces accordingly. For instance, for a necklace, you can use three clay pieces with chains to make a monogrammed DIY polymer clay necklace. For earrings, you can join two clay pieces with ear pins, jump rings, and so on. The options are endless when you are working with clay.

So, depending on what color your daughter likes and what type of jewelry she loves to wear, you can make this DIY jewelry for your little girl. Do let us know how your final product turned out and if she liked it in the comment section below.
