Re-purposed Pet Finds

Finding clever ways to re-purpose “found objects”, that may already be stored somewhere in your home, and possibly even headed for the trash or landfill, is a great way to become more environmentally conscious.
It’s also a great way to model for your kids what it means to be resourceful and creative. So hopefully they’ll learn that you don’t always need to run out and “buy” something new every time the need for an items arises. Plus, they’ll grow up having with the natural mentality to always re-use things and not waste them, so they won’t end up becoming landfill.

You may already have an old desk or chest or drawers similar to this one, stored in your attic or down in your basement somewhere. So here’s a perfect opportunity to breathe new life into that old abandoned piece of furniture, by turning it into this DIY Pet Center.  Your pets will end up loving having their very own place to hang out and eat, or take an afternoon snooze.

I happen to be a total Mac Addict, so when I came across this Upcycled Apple Computer Monitor Pet Bed, I just had to share it with you. I loved this particular era of Macs anyway, so how fun would it be to keep an item like this out of landfill, and find a use for it, so that you can still enjoy its retro qualities by having your cat or smaller sized pup, use it as their new favorite snoozing spot?

Have you ever found one of your cats sleeping inside your suitcase while you were in the process of packing or unpacking for a trip? So why not capitalize on their suitcase nesting instinct, by digging up a classic vintage or broken suitcase from your basement, or grandma’s house, and give it a new life as this Cozy Vintage Suitcase Pet Bed?   I see this as a win for Mother Earth, plus you’ll make your pets eternally happy as a result.

Over the years I’ve seen recycled wine barrels and wine staves put to use as planters, dining tables, and even fences, but this is the first time I’ve seen them used as a Wine Barrel Dog House. Once wine barrels have completed their usefulness in the winemaking process, vintners often get rid of their used wine barrels and replace them with new ones.  So if you’re already a wine enthusiast, is there any better idea than this one, for combining your love of wine, into keeping your pooch sheltered, safe and happy at the same time?
