Does your child’s bedroom always look like it was recently ravaged by a tornado? Kids have so much clothes, toys, and stuff, so it’s difficult to stay organized and clutter-free. Make the best use of your space and keep your kid’s room organized with these easy-to-implement tips.
Tip #1: Paint one wall with chalkboard paint. This will this allow your kids to actually draw on the walls, which they will love. But, this is more than simply an avenue for artistic expression: you can write down a schedule, tasks for the day, or a reminder for your child. This is also a fantastic method for helping little ones learn to read and write.
Tip #2: Make your furniture do double duty, so you get the most from your space. A dresser can double as a changing table, use a bookcase as a room divider, and buy seats and couches that also serve as storage. A little innovation goes a long way when it comes to squeezing more space out of each room.
Tip #3: Do your kids come home from school deliriously proud of their new artwork?! It’s adorable . . . until it happens every day. What are you supposed to do with all those finger paintings? If you’re running out of space on the refrigerator door, try stringing up a wire from one corner of the room to the other and use clothespins to hang art. Make sure to make this high enough so little fingers won’t be tempted to pull down precious work.
Tip #4: Don’t forget that the inside of closet doors make for super storage. Hang hooks, a corkboard, or use magnets to help organize your child’s things. Some moms even hang aprons on the inside of closet doors and make use of their generous pockets to store stuff!
Tip #5: Use baskets to store clothes and toys. Delegate specific baskets for specific items and ask your child to toss stuff into the appropriate basket. It’s an easy way to keep things off the floor and have your kids help clean up. A chic basket can be placed on a shelf or in a closet, so guests and nosey in-laws will never know they’re housing your child’s clutter.
Tip #6: Store toys, out-of-season clothing, and extra bedding in clear containers so you don’t need to open them to know what’s inside. This way, when you stick ’em on a high shelf or shove them under the beds, a quick glance is all you need.
Tip #7: Think outside the box when it comes to organization. Buckets or pails make great containers for pens, pencils, crayons, and erasers; picture boxes are fantastic for keeping diapers and wipes, and a shoe cabinet can become a display shelf. It’s a kids’ room, so use a little childlike creativity!
Tip #8: Hang a peg board on a wall (this can be particularly helpful over a desk), and use hooks to hang containers, buckets, or baskets for papers and writing utensils. You can hang artwork, keys, and your child’s costume jewelry. This is a great way to store arts and crafts items, too!
