I love coming up with unique ways to wrap holiday presents each year, and this year I’m using fabric, instead of paper, to wrap gifts all season long.
You can wrap presents just as easily with fabric as you can with traditional papers, but with fabric you don’t even need any tape! Just a simple pair of scissors will do.
Plus, you can even use scrap fabric, old shirts and tops, tea towels, etc. How’s that for resourceful holiday packaging?
Want to make you own? Here’s how to create your own DIY fabric wrapped gifts for the holidays this year…
Supplies:
- Fabric
- Scissors
Instructions:
Step 1: Start by cutting out a piece of fabric that is large enough to cover your gift at least twice over. Then place the gift in the middle of the fabric and fold the fabric over on each side, like a hot dog, just as you would if you were wrapping a gift with paper.
Step 2: Next, fold in the ends to create crisp corners, as seen in the photo.
Step 3: Then fold each end upward, onto the gift, so that the two ends now touch each other. *If these pieces are too long, cut these down a little bit so they just barely overlap each otter before moving on to the next step.
Step 4: Next, cut a long strip of fabric that is long enough to wrap around the gift and be tied.
Step 5: Then wrap the fabric strip around the package to cover the loose ends of the fabric that you pulled up in step three. Tie tightly underneath.
Step 6: Add greenery or berries and a gift tag, and you are done.
Now you have a uniquely packaged gift that everyone will appreciate.
Having trouble deciding on fabric prints? Wrap men’s gifts in flannels and checkered patterns for a more masculine feel, and gifts for women in cool polka dot patterns, florals, etc.
