Did you know I live with Elsa, princess Belle, Snow White, Ariel, and Rapunzel? I know, that’s a lot of princess, pink, and attitude living under one roof. That means there are a lot of dresses, shoes, and accessories, too! As my four-year-old daughter dresses, undresses, dresses, undresses, and you guessed it: dresses and undresses again and again throughout the day, the dress up basket looks messy, disheveled, and disorganized. The sight of the basket was starting to make my anxiety levels rise, so it was time to take control of it.
I dreamed of buying her the most beautiful, chic, and “must have” dress up station on the market, but the budget just didn’t allow for it, so DIY to the rescue. Turns out, it was easy, and you can do it too. You don’t need to be a carpenter to make it. With a couple items and tools, you will be a hero to your princess or superhero!
Here’s a standard five-shelf wall unit…
And, here’s a shelf revamped to be the ultimate DIY dress up station.
Supplies:
- Leaning wall five-shelf bookcase (Pottery Barn Studio Wall Shelf, Target Ladder Bookcase, The Container Store Linea Leaning Bookcase, and Lowe’s Freestanding Bookcase)
- Drill
- Adjustable closet rod
- Screws
- Decorative knobs
Instructions:
Step 1: Remove the second to last shelf from the bottom of the wall shelving unit.
Step 2: Determine the spot you want to screw in your rod, then use the drill to screw in the screws on both sides.
Step 3: Screw in knobs on the outside of the unit to hang purses and any other accessories.
Step 4: Accessorize and organize all clothes and princess necessities, and add decorative items too!
