I don’t like blood, haunted houses or horror movies during Halloween (or any time of year, for that matter); therefore I never decorate my house with gory and horrifying objects for the October 31st holiday. I do, however, like to be festive and celebrate Halloween in a not-so-scary way. So, my house is more boo-tiful, than it is super scary. With the changing seasons, I’m constantly swapping out storage boxes with seasonal decorations. As one holiday moves out, another one swiftly moves in. If I can, I love to find convenient ways to re-use existing, already-pretty decorations for several holidays. Fall, Halloween and Thanksgiving have some overlap with leaves, deep colors and lots and lots of pumpkins.
This year, my fall flower centerpiece is so pretty, it’s sticking around for Halloween. With a can of spray paint, small Halloween props and sticks, it was transformed into a spooky boo-quet in no time. Here’s how I did it in 2 easy steps, and you can, too!
DIY Halloween Flower Arrangement
Materials:
- faux flowers (or real flowers)
- vase
- mini skeletons, including hands, bodies and heads
- black spray paint
- small crows
Directions:
Step 1: Find earth-tone flowers with fall vibes. I used faux hydrangeas, peonies, aspens leaves, lamb’s ear and spray painted dried Eucalyptus leaves black. Arrange in a pretty vase. I spray painted a glass jar black for a more moody look, but this is optional. I am not an expert in this, so just do want looks best and most pleasing to the eye. Remember to add texture and height. You can do this with greenery, feathers, sticks and big blooms.
Step 2: Add props such as crows, pumpkins, skeleton hands and any other fun Halloween props. I had extra stems from a project from last year, so I glue them together to form a pumpkin flower topper. It was super easy, and just took some hot glue. To “Halloween-ify” the flower arrangements, I glued skeleton heads to the center of the flowers, added a small skeleton to the top of the arrangement and a hanging one from the glass vase. The crows are a perfect pumpkin topper, too!
