I am a huge fan of the bohemian-chic lifestyle, from artfully distressed denim to long hair to cool living spaces. During the summer, my daughters and I live in sundresses, and all winter long I sport as many braids, oversized cardigans, and fun prints as I can. And the house has to match the inhabitants, right? Enter the boho chic home decor vibe.
When decorating our home, my husband and I reach for details that feel eclectic, homey, and a little bit vintage—but are still super pretty. A collection of beautiful things that both complement and contrast with one another. We stack and stagger, but we still maintain a visual balance. As a result, our space is filled with boho-chic design elements.

11 Boho Chic Decorating Ideas for your Home
Plants
Hanging, potted, in bunches, across tables—it doesn't matter what your method is, any bohemian home needs some nature. I'm a huge fan of the green, leafy look, but if we're being honest I've never been good at keeping plants alive. If you're like me, cacti should do the trick. This boho-inspired space is nailing the whole plants-as-decor trend.
Ottomans & Poufs
When little kids are in the picture, sub out hard-edged coffee tables with something more functional and pretty. We found an oversized ottoman at Home Goods and have taken to tossing faux fur or colorful woven throws over it to switch up the look of the living room. A pouf is the perfect focal point for a smaller living room space, and it can be moved around the room easily when company comes over.
Wicker
From living room chairs to sweet nursery details, I cannot get enough wicker. When I was a kid, the material always meant ugly outdoor patio furniture, but today's charming wicker furniture incorporates texture and nature into any indoor space, especially when left unpainted or painted white with a little distressing.
Dried Flowers
I fell into this trend by accident because I've always hated tossing fresh flowers after special events or occasions. It turns out that when you don't just let flowers dry out and you leave them randomly hanging around, they can become a totally purposeful part of the decorating scheme. I am obsessed with how this blogger has hers dangling above the headboard. This is a pretty easy DIY, too: Just thread dried petals along fish wire using a spot of glue on each to hold them in place, and hang.
Mix & Match Pottery
The most-used room of the house doesn't have to be left out of the party. Even modern kitchens can benefit from boho decorating influences, like a glorious coffee corner or dish nook, like this one featuring copper bowls and an assortment of mismatched pottery. Pick them up at garage sales, antique stores, and in your travels. Another favorite boho kitchen accent? Carnival glass.
Distressed Wood
Any distressed materials—from iron to brick—will help create your gorgeous bohemian space. But driftwood, antique doors, and other straight-from-nature materials really do it for me. Whether you're stripping your floors down to the original wood, putting up a little reclaimed shiplap, or simply adding a touch like this bathtub tray, distressed wood instantly creates a boho mood.
Tiles
A colorful tile backsplash is a gorgeous bohemian element to bring to the kitchen. As seen in this bright and funky space, even a room that leans toward modern-farmhouse can get that gorgeous boho-chic feel with the simple addition of fun tiling.
Wall Hangings
When it comes to boho living spaces, gimme
all the wall hangings! That means macrame, fuzzy wool, dreamcatchers, and tapestries. The more neutral tones and texture variance you can cram on one wall, the better. I am loving this inspired hanging fringe from
Sleepy Bird Co. and the adjacent latter.
Colorful Furniture
Because every design element needs an antidote, balance out neutral spaces with more colorful ones. Vibrant jewel tones are especially interesting on couches, chairs, and rugs—even more so if there's some power-clashing involved, as seen here.
Outdoor Lounge Spaces
In warmer months or climates, there is absolutely nothing more lush than throwing a bunch of oriental rugs and large pillows in a circle in the backyard. Add some twinkle lights, mix and match glasses, and good friends and you've got yourself a gorgeous bohemian soiree right out of a foregone era.
Hanging Chairs
When it comes to whimsical furniture, nothing says bohemian-chic like a swinging piece like this gorgeous chair. I've also been lusting after hanging cribs cropping up all over Pinterest. They're especially perfect for a boho-chic nursery.
