Filipino-American comedian Jo Koy recently hosted the 81st Golden Globe Awards on Jan. 7, 2024. It was a star-studded event, with many looking forward to a great evening. However, things went south after Jo Koy’s jokes were not well received by the who’s who of Hollywood (via Guardian).
Jo Koy was the last-minute choice for hosting the prestigious award ceremony after several high-profile comedians, including former Oscars host Chris Rock and Ali Wong, reportedly declined the gig due to lack of preparation time. However, guests were expecting more from the comedian as he was booed on stage for his jokes.
Despite this, he took the negativity with stride and told the audience, “Yo, I got the gig ten days ago! You want a perfect monologue?…I wrote some of these, and they’re the ones you’re laughing at” (via Rolling Stone).
With all the fiasco and Jo Koy grabbing headlines, many are eager to know more about his family life. The stand-up comedian was married to Filipina-American singer Angie King (best known as Nura Luca) from 2003 to 2013. The ex-couple shares one kid together.

Jo Koy is the father to Joseph Herbert Jr. He was born on April 21, 2003, at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles. Joseph was also raised and attended private school there (via People).
Although he and Angie King are no longer together, he shares a strong bond with his son and “loves being a dad” to him. Till today, the ex-couple remains “best friends” as “this is the best thing” they could do for their child. The father-son duo lives down the street from each other, making it easier for them to spend more time together.
Over the years, Joseph Herbert Jr. has given plenty of joke material to his father, thanks to his hygiene and adolescent angst from his teenage years. He even appeared with his dad on ABC’s “Celebrity Family Feud” in 2022 and has walked with his father at various red carpet events.
