Mindy Kaling’s 6-year-old daughter, Katherine “Kit” Swati, did not hold back as she shared her “strong opinion” on her mum’s mini dress. Kaling recently attended the SEPHORiA 2024 event, where the actor opened up about her daughter already being a fashionista. “The Mindy Project” star, who has kept her children’s paternity private, also has a son, Spencer, and another daughter, Anne.
Mindy Kaling reveals why her daughter doesn’t like minidresses
Mindy Kaling told PEOPLE that her daughter Kit thinks a dress is “not glamorous” unless it “touches the ground.” The actor shared that her 6-year-old has a “really specific vision of what she thinks is pretty and what she doesn’t.” The 45-year-old explained, “I think it’s because you’re not allowed to wear evening-length gowns to first grade.” She added, “It’s like the forbidden.”
Kaling shared that Kit is not a fan of the actor wearing a minidress when she goes out. The mom of three said, “So she has a lot of strong opinions.” She explained her daughter is like, “It doesn’t touch the ground. It’s not beautiful.” Kaling further shared that makeup has also caught her daughter’s fancy.
“The Office” star had initially thought she would wait until Kit was 13 or 14 before she got interested in the cosmetics. However, instead of making it a regular thing, Kaling shared she allows a “little eyeshadow” on “extremely special occasions.” Kaling explained she treats doing makeup “as fun face paint, costume-type stuff.” The actor shared she does it with her daughter “once or twice a year and she absolutely loves it.”
In December, Kaling celebrated Kit’s 6th birthday and penned a heartwarming Instagram post for her. The actor gushed about her daughter’s love for the song “Girl on Fire” by Alicia Keys and “shout-singing” it.
