These cribs are primarily sold at specialty retailers and the recall includes Franklin & Ben’s Mason 4-in-1 cribs manufactured between January 2012 and August 2012, model #5601 (serial numbers H004522, H004546, H004548, and H004777). You can find the manufacture date and item serial number on the cribs inside side panel.
The affected cribs have solid wood sideboards and front/back wooden rails of varying heights. They convert from a crib to a daybed, toddler bed, and full-size bed. The cribs feature a storage door at their base with metal knobs, and were sold in both a weathered gray and rustic brown finish, retailing for $600 to $700 each. Approximately 1,000 of the recalled cribs were sold in the United States, and 100 were sold in Canada.
The crib front can separate from the side panels, creating a gap that could be a hazard and is the reason for the recall, since a child could fall into the gap and become trapped between the front and side panels.
Franklin & Ben is providing a free repair kit, available by calling their toll-free number 888-673-6652 during regular business hours Monday through Friday, or by visiting their website and clicking on “Safety Recall.”
If you own this crib, stop using it immediately and find an alternate safe sleeping environment for your child until you have received and used the free repair kit.
