There are many reasons (low supply, inability to breastfeed, adoption, or choice to name just a few) why parents feed their babies with formula during their first year of life. Due to a low supply caused by an undiagnosed thyroid disorder, I had to supplement with my first baby, giving him a bottle of formula after every breastfeeding session. Needless to say, this was exhausting and time consuming. Preparing bottles of formula was one of my least favorite things. Measuring the formula, getting the water temperature right, making a mess with the powder, getting that damn scoop wet and making the inside of the formula container all sticky. So when I heard about the Baby Brezza Formula Pro, I knew I had to try it the second time around!
The Details
The Formula Pro uses patented technology to measure, dispense, and mix water and powdered formula to the perfect temperature and consistency. With the push of a button, you can prepare a bottle within seconds that has no air bubbles. The water and formula powder are stored right in the machine, so it’s always ready for you when your baby gets hungry. The machine works with all bottle sizes and all formula brands and types. You can also choose the amount of formula you want to make: two, four, six, eight or ten ounces. It’s sort of like a Keurig for formula!
My Experience
Because I had such a hard time breastfeeding the first time around and was really hard on myself about it, I decided before my second baby was even born that if breastfeeding didn’t work this time, I would give my baby formula and be done with it. While breast may be best, not every mother can do that.
In the first couple of weeks before my supply really built up I did have to supplement my second baby with a bottle or two a day. I’ve never been one to have a large supply even now, so I don’t have a bunch of pumped milk stored. On the very rare occasion that I am not with Calvin for a feeding, my husband gives him a formula bottle. So we’ve had the opportunity to use our Baby Brezza Formula Pro enough to be happy that we have it.
It took me about five minutes to assemble and program the Formula Pro. While the machine was mostly already assembled, it also came with clear instructions depending on what type of formula you use with it. (I personally use Enfamil Gentlease and the settings specific for that type of formula.)
Once the machine is set up it literally takes less than ten seconds to make a bottle. You place your bottle on the little platform under the spout, select what size bottle you want to prepare, and press start. The Formula Pro prepares and pours the bottle at the perfect temperature, with no bubbles, mixed and ready to go. It could not be easier or more convenient.
Worth It?
While you might want to wait until you actually have your baby and see how breastfeeding goes, the Baby Brezza Formula Pro is something I would definitely recommend that you have on your baby registry. You can always keep it in the box and return it if you don’t need it, but it is so nice to have in case you do. For the convenience alone, and even if you only give a formula bottle once a day, I definitely recommend it. After two months of sporadic use, I haven’t had any issues or problems to report and definitely think it is worth the purchase.
