The buckle problem is a potential risk in the event of an accident or vehicle fire in which case the child would need to be quickly removed from the car, and although the child and seat could be removed together, it’s something a parent might not think to do during an emergency situation.

In July, Graco recalled 1.9 million car seats (following an earlier recall of 4.2 million toddler seats), in the largest infant seat recall in U.S. history, due to similar buckle problems.
