“I don’t want my child to grow up to be a sex tape star,” says Amie Logan, a Kansas mom who created the Change.org petition. “You pulled the Breaking Bad toys because they promoted drug use. You should pull this clothing line because it promotes bad behavior as well. The madness has to stop. If the toys are damaging so is the clothing.”
When I first read Logan’s remarks, I went online expecting to see little baby dresses with cutouts or belly button-revealing tops. Instead I saw a line of clothes that looked pretty generic, to be honest. The “craziest” thing in the collection is a “leatherette” skirt … but it just looks cheesy, not scandalous. I mean, I’ve never heard of a child turning into a “sex tape star” because of what her mom dressed her in as a newborn. And comparing a pleather skirt to a toy drug dealer (holding a bag of what looks like crystal meth) is … crazy.
Don’t get me wrong: I love that passionate moms are banding together over an issue they care about. I just wish that they would focus their energy on something that actually mattered. Don’t like the clothes? Don’t buy them. It’s as simple as that.
