DIY Back-to-School Panda Paper Plate Pencil Pouches

Back-to-school time is always pandemonium. (Get what I did there?) That’s why organization is key.

My son Kai loves to go shopping for school supplies and to organize them when we get home. So, I thought it’d be fun to make these hanging pencil pouches out of paper plates so he can organize his homework area with all of the supplies he regularly needs.

Supplies:

  • 2 paper plates
  • Yarn
  • Scissors
  • Black and white card stock
  • 2 ½”, 2”, and 1” circle craft punchers
  • Glue stick
  • Hole puncher
  • Plastic needle
  • Tape

Instructions:

Step 1: Cut off a third of a paper plate.

Step 2: Lay the two paper plates on top of each other so the insides are facing each other. Tape the edges of the paper plate together. Punch holes around the edges of the paper plate.

Step 3: Cut off about four to five feet of yarn from the spool. Then thread one end with a dull plastic needle and knot the other end.

Step 4: Sew a blanket stitch in between the holes.

Step 5: Cut another piece of yarn and tie it to both ends of the stitching on the paper plate.

Step 6: Make eyes, nose, mouth, and ears out of card stock by punching circles out of craft punchers.

Step 7: Use the glue stick to attach the face to the paper plate. Let dry.

Step 8: Hang on a wall near your homework area.
