Mother’s Day Handmade Gifts: MOM Letter Collage

MOM letter collage final 2

Mother’s Day is coming up in a couple weeks. Speaking as a mom myself, I can say moms everywhere love handmade gifts with a personal touch. Especially if they include photos of their kids and family! For the mom who loves DIY Mother's Day handmade gifts, I thought I’d put together a MOM letter collage using papier mache letters, some fun fabrics, and some of my favorite photos! Moms can place these letters on a shelf, or hang them on the wall with even more photos around them.

Supplies:

  • 6 to 8 inch papier mache letters to spell MOM: 1 set
  • spray paint in your mom’s favorite color
  • 5 to 6 inch scrap squares of cotton fabric: 6 to 8
  • family photos: 8 to 12
  • Mod Podge
  • felt flowers 3”: 3
  • felt lady bugs (optional): 3

Instructions:

Step 1: Spray paint the letters with your mom’s favorite color of paint, let it dry, and add a second coat of paint.

Step 2: While the paint is drying, pick out 8 to 12 of your mom’s favorite photos.

Step 3: Once the paint is dry, lay out the photos and the fabrics on the letters.

Step 4: Use a straight edge cutter and scissors to cut the fabrics and letters to fit the shapes of the letters.

Step 5: Use a paintbrush to apply decoupage material like Mod Podge to one side of the first letter. Press the fabrics and photos into the decoupage material while it’s still wet, and smooth it out by pressing from the center out with your fingers. Make sure you press down the edges.

Step 6: Repeat the process for the other letters and the rest of the fabric and photos. Don’t worry about getting extra Mod Podge on the photos or on the fabric—it will dry clear.

Step 7: Wrap your letters and present them to your mom for Mother’s Day or any other special occasion.
