This Friendly Monster Wreath Will Welcome Trick-Or-Treaters

I don’t know about you, but I prefer my Halloween decor as un-scary as possible. Since I’m not one for the traditional black and orange “scary” Halloween decor, I strive to make things that are goofy and colorful, like this completely un-scary monster wreath made with a feather boa! Not only is it fun (and kind of messy) to make but kids will love this less scary form of Halloween decor. Give your new monster a name and let him watch over your house for the Halloween season!

This goofy DIY monster wreath is easy to make with a few traditional and nontraditional craft items, like ping pong balls, a feather boa and craft foam. Cut and glue it all together to make a furry-looking monster with eyes, horns and pointy teeth. Hang it above your fireplace, on your door or fill in an empty wall space. Add any other embellishments you want to make your monster wreath completely unique!

Supplies:

  • Foam wreath form
  • Feather boa
  • 2 white ping pong balls
  • Black permanent marker
  • White craft foam
  • Other color of craft foam
  • Scissors
  • Glue gun

Step 1: Draw smaller circles on the ping pong balls with a permanent marker to create eyeballs.

Step 2: Fold the colored craft foam in half. Cut curved horn shapes to fit the size of your wreath form.

Step 3: Fold the white craft foam in half. Cut out jagged teeth shapes.

Step 4: Use hot glue to adhere the feather boa to the wreath. A traditional sized boa probably won’t coil around the entire wreath, so you’d want to simply cover the front of the form.

Step 5: Glue the horns and teeth to the backside of the wreath form. Position the teeth so that they are visible through the wreath opening. If you drew the shapes before cutting, make sure any remaining marks are not facing outward.

Step 6: Glue the eyeballs to the top part of the wreath, adding plenty of glue so they stick to the form and not just the feathers.

Step 7: Lastly, you can glue a string to the back of the wreath form for hanging or even use wall mounting strips because the wreath is so lightweight.

Be sure to hang it somewhere free of moisture, such as on a well-covered door or somewhere inside your home! The feathers will not hold up to moisture.
