Once the grains have been ground down into a powder, you then cook the powder in a saucepan on the stovetop. The grains must be cooked because they are still in their raw state. Commercial baby cereal grains have been pre-cooked and dehydrated which is why you need only add water to make a cereal. The ground grains may be stored in a cool dry place for up to 3 months; for longer storage, keep the ground grains in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
