On a day my kids have a sweet in the middle of the day, I offer one of these healthier “treats” after dinner, too.
If your kids like apple skin, by all means, don’t peel them!
Cinnamon Apples
- 1 Fuji apple*
- Cinnamon
Peel the apple. Slice it any way you’d like and sprinkle with cinnamon!
(Sprinkling the apples with cinnamon, not only turns the apples into a treat, it also keeps them from turning brown.)
Honey-Yogurt, Almond Crunch Apple
- 1 Fuji apple*
- 1/4 cup plain yogurt
- 1/2 teaspoon honey
- 1 teaspoon crushed almonds
Peel the apple and slice it any way you’d like. In a small bowl, mix the yogurt, honey, and almonds. Serve it as a dip for the apple.
Sunflower Seed Apples
- 1 Fuji apple*
- 2 tablespoons sunflower seed butter*
Peel the apple and slice it any way you’d like. Spread a bit of the butter on each slice, or serve it on the side as a dip.
(When I make the Sunflower Seed Butter Apples at home, I spread each slice with the butter — however, for the packed lunch, it goes in a separate container.)
*Fuji apples are my favorite. I seem to be able to find they year-round in most markets.
*Sunflower butter is always available at Trader Joe’s and can be found in other stores as well.
