How To Make Perfect Popsicles

Popsicles are one of our favorite summer indulgences when the weather is sizzling. What better way to cool off when the temps are warm?

Most of the popsicles found on the shelves at the market are filled with processed sugars or sugar substitutes such as high fructose corn syrup or Aspartame. Artificial sweeteners are known to cause numerous health issues ranging from headaches to cancer. Research also suggests that they can actually cause overeating among consumers.

Fortunately popsicles can be made at home without the added processed sugars by using safe, natural sweeteners that will keep your kids coming back for more.  

Here are a few simple popsicle recipes that a worth a try:

Popsicle Recipes

Simple Melon Ice Pops

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups cubed watermelon, cantaloupe or honey dew (remove all seeds)
  • Ice cube tray or paper cups
  • Popsicle sticks or tooth picks

Directions:

Place one of the above cubed fruits into a food processer and puree. Pour the mixture into an ice cube tray or paper cups. Place popsicle sticks (cups) or tooth picks (ice cube tray) in and freeze until hardened.

Blueberry Popsicles

Ingredients:

  • 1 pint fresh blueberries
  • 1 cup milk (if you are lactose intolerant you can sub in rice, almond or soy milk)
  • 1 cup vanilla yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon honey

Directions:

Place all ingredients into a food processer and puree.  Pour the mixture into an ice cube tray or paper cups. Place popsicle sticks (cups) or tooth picks (ice cube tray) in and freeze until hardened.
