Summer Day Camp: How To Pack the Perfect Snacks

Summertime often means summer camp for many kids. For those too little to go away to camp, day camp provides loads of summer fun (and a much needed break for stay home parents like myself). Whether your kiddo is headed off to camp or just gets dropped off for day camp, here are some quick snack packing tips to send keep them happy campers while they’re away.

1. Pack snacks that will keep them going all day.

Giving the kids a balanced snack with protein will help keep them going all day. String cheese, almonds, bananas, carrot sticks with hummus, celery sticks with peanut butter (although, be sure there aren’t peanut allergy restrictions at the camp before you send it) are all great options for keeping hunger away.

2. Give them something you know they’ll eat.

I have a picky eater. If I send him to camp with things he doesn’t usually eat, the snacks are going to come home uneaten. I usually pack things I know he’ll eat, with maybe one thing I want him to try. I also can’t give too many or too few choices in his lunch or snacks. I try to give him 3-4 options, all easy for little fingers to open and eat, and all on the low-mess ratio.

3. Sweeten the deal.

It never hurts to include a little sweet treat in your kiddo’s lunch or snacks.
