Mommy Must-Have: BABYBJÖRN Bouncer Bliss

There is simply nothing that compares to the BABYBJÖRN Bouncer Bliss. If there is one item worth investing in for a newborn, it’s this.

First off, don’t be fooled by cheaper imitations. Most competing products will be outgrown by six months whereas the BABYBJÖRN will last you up to two years. I highly recommend also getting one of the brand’s bouncer toys. They may not look like anything special, but at around two months (maybe even before), your LO will start to loooove playing with this toy and will likely not get sick of it for awhile.

There are many bouncers that look like the BABYBJÖRN and even come with similar toys (like this), but from my experience and from that of many other parents I’ve spoken with, they won’t entertain your kiddos as long and the toy will not be as engaging (if at all). You need your child to be engaged, so that you can actually get stuff done and get use out of a bouncer! And again, while the BABYBJÖRN  has a bigger up-front cost than other options, it will last not only last you longer in terms of months/years, but you will use it for longer periods throughout the day because odds are your baby will have fun bouncing in it.

If you’re pregnant and not sure why you would want a bouncer – trust me, it’s an essential! When you’re home and want to get anything done – from cooking dinner to showering, you need a safe place to put your baby when he or she is awake. When I’m home alone, I’ll often put the BABYBJÖRN bouncer in my bathroom and pop my five month old into it, so I can shower while keeping a watchful eye on him as he plays.

When he was younger I would bounce the bouncer with my foot while I worked to sooth him; now he can bounce himself. Many people splurge on a moving bouncer that automatically bounces up and down and sways from side to side – my son didn’t love the moving ones we tried (I almost always put him in them with the motion off because he would scream, and anecdotally from speaking with many parents this is common). Not only is baby learning to bounce himself with BABYBJÖRN (a skill!), but the automatic ones are usually outgrown by six months as well.

Lastly, this bouncer is super easy to travel with. It folds totally flat (it has three different positions) and is very lightweight (as I said I drag it all around my apartment throughout the day). I’ve packed it in the car for short drives to keep my LO entertained when I’m with family or friends and I’ve packed it in a suitcase for international travel. They also sell a travel bag.
