Back-To-School Lunchbox Snacks

Have you ever been in a situation where you find out your kid has been “trading” lunchbox items that you’ve shlepped across town or shelled out premium dollars for? Many of us have and it’s infuriating to say the least. In my case it was Hershy’s chocolate milk that was being traded (who would think!?).

With that top of mind we’ve scoured the aisles to highlight some of the best lunchbox snack items that your kids will likely refuse to trade. And, should they not be fans, they’re delicious, we can pretty much guarantee you’ll happily eat them.

On that note, storage is key for many food items. Especially the healthier ones, which is why we’re loving the above Bentgo lunchbox here at Momtastic. The Bentgo Kids Chill Leak-Proof Lunch Box ($39.99) comes in a few colorways and it not only is leak-proof and has a few compartments, but it comes with a removable ice pack to keep food cool longer. It’s totally durable even if your kid throws it, drops the backpack, etc. Now on to the snacks… we’ve got something sweet, something salty and something healthy. Because…balance, right?

Speaking of staying cool, the ice pack in the Bentgo will come in handy for WHOLLY Avocado, made with hand-scooped Hass avocados and free from preservatives. WHOLLY Diced Avocado is great for a quick addition to a lunchbox recipe or as its own snack. They also have WHOLLY Avocado Minis. Avocados are one of the few items even junk food obsessed teens seem to like and this is a convenient way to load up.

No lunchbox would be complete without something sweet (for better or worse…), REAL Cookies are made with clean and simple ingredients, including almond and coconut flours, real fruit and simply sweetened with Vermont maple syrup. The cookies are also gluten-free, grain-free, dairy-free, vegan, kosher and paleo-friendly. They come in three flavors: Chocolate Chip, Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip and Lemon Blueberry.

You might know that Popchips has flavors like Sea Salt and BBQ, but they just launched some pretty amazing varieties: Fully Loaded (think: baked potato) and Fiery Buffalo (think: hot wings), both of which are made using 50% less fat than fried potato chips – i.e. they’re tasty without the greasy residue.

Alternatively, you can do a “cheat” and snag one of the Bartaco kids lunch boxes. The retro metal lunch box can be ordered individually or with a kids tray included (one taco of choice, cheese quesadilla and chips + kid’s guacamole). It’s as close as we can hope to a private chef, at least for now…
