The Hottest Toys for Girls 2014: Age 1
Fisher-Price Laugh & Learn Say Please Tea Set
BUY NOW
Average rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars
Teaches baby about numbers, shapes, opposites, manners, greetings and more.
Real mom raves: It is a perfect first tea set. It is not meant to be used with liquids - which is perfectly fine with me! Less mess! The teapot is the cutest part... there are three different settings: one that just has cute sounds when you "pour" the tea, when you lift/close the lid, and when you press the "tag". The other two settings have various sounds or music and songs that go along with the actions. My daughter is only 12 months old, so pretend play is still somewhat of a foreign concept to her. But we have fun exploring all the sounds the pot makes. She likes to "cheers" the tea cups with me, and she will "take a sip" from the cup and go "Ahhhh" at the end. I imagine she will grow into this toy a little more in the next few months!
Step2 WaterWheel Activity Play Table
BUY NOW
Average rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars
Elevated design makes play accessible while keeping children out of the dirt and mud.
Raves: The water wheel is great fun, and the children love scooping water into its reserve to make it spin. The two levels of the table give the children individual play space if two children are playing. Now that winter is approaching, I look forward to adding sand instead of water to the table. I appreciate the easy-to-open plugs built into the basin, as it makes it easy to remove water (or sand). The toy, though sturdy, is also lightweight enough for an adult to pick up and simply pour water out, if desired. Children cannot, however, easily move or turn the table over.
Fisher-Price Little People Disney Princess Klip Klop Stable
BUY NOW
Average rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars
Classic Disney Princess styling with Little People charm
Real mom raves: I bought this for my 18 month old niece for Christmas. She loves it. The horse klip-klop noise is cute and they work well on the ramps. Only complaint is that the bottom ramp has a weird bump in it, so the horse can't go all the way down.
Fisher-Price Laugh & Learn: Learning Piggy Bank
BUY NOW
Average rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars
Baby will learn about counting, colors, animals and sizes. Responds with songs, music, speech, and activities
Real mom raves: This toy entertains our girls for hours! I bought it for them when they were 13 months old, and they have been consistantly playing with it for five months! The price is very reasonable for the amount of entertainment received. And our door falls off (when pulled off) and it is easy to put back on - no big deal.
Power Wheels Dora The Explorer Lil' Quad
BUY NOW
Average rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars
Designed with toddler-friendly features for the littlest riders.
Real mom raves: We purchased this quad for our daughter's first birthday. The item was shipped very fast and arrived in perfect condition. Assembly was simple, only a few screws and stickers. The stickers on the fenders are a little tricky as they are a curved surface and will have a few wrinkles. We charged the battery as per instructions (18 hrs first time) and it seems to hold it charge. As of now we only have her ride it for a minute or two per day until she gets used to it.
LeapFrog Spin and Sing Alphabet Zoo
BUY NOW
Average rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars
Introduces letters A-Z and animal names and sounds.
Real mom raves: My ten-month old loves this toy. It has kept her attention longer then any other toy she owns. It has three musical settings which are pretty engaging to her. On one setting, the spinning of the ball is directly linked to the music, (the previous reviewer was right about it being one of the least annoying muzak in toydom), so when it stops spinning- so does the song. So my baby girl stops whatever she has wandered away to do and goes back and spins it again. And again. And again.
ALEX® Toys - Early Learning Learn To Dress Monkey -Little Hands 1492

Average rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars
This cute monkey is also a great stuffed animal friend for your child and features 11 dressing activities.
Real mom raves: This is a really cute, happy looking monkey that actually teaches without batteries, lights or noise! He has several dressing activities, similar to Dressy Bessy and Dapper Dan. He has a zipper, buttons, straps, etc. to help the little ones learn to dress. It has a lot of detail, check out the shoes! He even has a little banana that can be stored in his pocket.
LeapFrog Shapes And Sharing Picnic Basket
BUY NOW
Average rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars
Explore shapes and colors/colours with food pieces, and manners and more with fun learning songs
Real mom raves:
I have never written a review before, but had to for this toy. My 2 1/2 year old daughter and 11 month old son play with this toy constantly and fight over it so much so I am thinking about buying another one. We have more toys than anyone I know. I know the good, bad and easily broken ones on the market. This toy has everything you'd want for your kids.
1. Sounds effects
2. Container to store pieces in
3. Shape-sorter
4. Different healthy food items for your toddler to learn to distinguish
5. Promotes sharing (though my kids are still working on this aspect 🙂
6. Container has a handle for toddler to tote around (which all toddlers love to do)
Fisher-Price Laugh & Learn Love to Play Puppy
BUY NOW
Average rating: 4 out of 5 stars
Baby can learn A-B-Cs, 1-2-3's and parts of the body, plus sing along to ten favorite songs and games.
Real mom raves: We have this and Hug & Learn Baby Tad, and we prefer this puppy because it has a lot of variety. It has two modes - learning and musical, which are selected by pressing the button on its foot. The other foot, both hands, an ear, tummy and nose play sounds or songs when pressed. The puppy identifies body parts, colors and sings fun songs. It is very colorful, has a flashing bone on his shirt and volume control through a velcro seam on its back.
VTech - Baby's Learning Laptop
BUY NOW
Average rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars
Three modes of play teach shapes, common objects, feelings and music
Real mom raves: We a Vtech Tote 'N Go Laptop Plus for our 3 year old VTech Tote 'N Go Laptop Plus and knew that we would need to have something comparable for our 14 month old. He really likes it. Not as much as my 3 year old likes his product, but he enjoys it none the less. There are 2 volume settings. It automatically turns off after no one plays it for a while. Bright colors. 3 different learning settings. It has been dropped several times and still works great. Cute songs. Great carrying handle.
Melissa & Doug Jenna - 12
BUY NOW
Average rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars
Wipe-clean arms and legs . Her eyes open and close, and she can suck her thumb or her pacifier.
Real mom raves: I gave this doll to my daughter on her first birthday. I picked it because I wanted a doll that was simple and soft, yet realistic and had eyes that open and close. I wasn't too sure that I would like it's size... and sure enough a 12" is pretty small. But for the size of my one-year-old it turned out to be perfect. If she were any bigger, than it would be hard for my little girl to hang on to her, especially with one hand. My daughter responded so cute to this gift. She started kissing this doll and hugging her tight and patting her. Looking forward to many happy years with our new little "baby!"
Radio Flyer 4-in-1 Trike, Pink
BUY NOW
Average rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars
3 point harness to keep infants safe. Adjustable grow with me seat. Pedals switch from pedals to foot rests
Real mom raves: We love this bike! Baby Belle has been trying to get on this thing all day since I assembled it. She is 15 months old and I have it assembled with the seatbelt and parent control handle, but not the sun shade or "cage" attachment.
It was easy to assemble, all parts were accounted for. It requires a hammer, a phillips screw driver, and an adjustable wrench. It assembled in about 1/2 hour, for someone like me who is not very handy.
The handle turns the steering of the bike, which is good because I don't trust a toddler not to steer into traffic just yet. It also has a very good turning radius, can handle a 90 degree turn on a dime with good stability.
Fisher-Price Brilliant Basics Stroll-Along Walker
BUY NOW
Average rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars
My Stroll and play walker is perfect to steady baby's first steps.
Real mom raves: My daughter loves this toy! My mom got it for her when she started pulling up and she loved playing on the front of it when sitting and pulling up on the front and back. Recently she learned how to push it and I love that it's more sturdy than other walkers I've seen although it does go faster on hardwood so I would recommend beginners use it on carpet. I feel she will be walking soon judging from how well she pushes it now at only 8 months! She also has the doll that is sold separately which is super cute!
Sesame Street Take-Along Elmo
BUY NOW
Average rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars
The world's most huggable since 1898!
Real mom raves: The Gund Sesame Street Elmo is the perfect size for a toddler to tote around. He is very soft and holds up well in the wash. Our Elmo is so loved that he usually goes in the laundry once a week in a delicates bag or a pillow-case, and he comes out fine. There are no batteries or wires to mess with. He is just a classic stuffed animal.
