I love when the color, length, design or shape of my nails can make a powerful beauty statement. For women like me, and even tweens and young girls, a collection of vibrant nail polish means hours of entertainment, plus a convenient way to accessorize.
For me, a strong polish collection must include a fantastic glitter polish. I’m happy 90% of the time with a solid nail color and depending on my mood, I may go for a bold red, a cool blue, blushing pink or soft nude. That other 10% loves lots and lots of glitter. But, every time I paint my nails with glitter polish, it never works. With every stroke, I take a piece of glitter off, or I have to do 100 strokes just to cover my nail with a moderate amount of glitter.
Ladies, I finally found the secret to painting nails with glitter polish – a foam make-up sponge. Yes, it’s life changing in the world of nail polish. It will add so much sparkle to your world, or in this case, fingernails.
Take note, because this is going to be a holiday go-to this year for an extra dose of shine! Let’s paint the town with DIY glitter. Here’s how…
DIY Glitter Nails
Ingredients
- Glitter nail polish
- Foam make-up sponges
- Nail Polish remover and cotton swab
- Sally Hansen Big Polish Guards or a liquid version
Directions:
Step 1: Apply the solution, or the sticker around the base of your nail, on the skin to protect it from all the polish. It’s like a barrier, or a stencil, to protect your skin.
Step 2: Apply a couple strokes of nail polish to the make-up sponge.
Step 3: Dab the sponge with glitter on to your nail. Repeat as necessary until the nail is covered with glitter. No more messy strokes or spotty nails because this method works like a charm. When you remove the barrier, use a cotton swab with nail polish remover to get any excess that may have leaked onto the skin. It should be minimal, if any.
Step 4: Cover with a top coat, let dry and show off those fancy nails!
