8 Mortifying Mom Moments

Potty Pool

My 3 and a half year old son was doing very well with his potty training. One lovely summer day, I decided we would spend the afternoon at the neighborhood public pool. It was his first time swimming and he was very excited. In order to get him ready, I kept saying, “Just remember, we don’t pee while in the pool. If you need to pee get out of the pool.” That was my mantra for the morning, and I must have repeated it hundreds of times. Well, it really sunk in, because after about 15 minutes of splashing around, he said, “Mommy, I need to get out of the pool!” Very proudly I hustled him out of the pool and starting leading him toward the bathroom, but before I knew what was happening, he had pulled down his trunks, and while standing at the edge of the pool—in front of the entire neighborhood—he began to pee into the pool. He didn’t pee while in the pool! He got out and peed into it. Clearly, I should have been more specific—that kid follows instructions to the letter.

Gassy Class

When I was pregnant, I took a fabulous prenatal yoga class that was taught by a very young, very hunky yoga instructor. I went every week, even during my seventh month when I was experiencing terrible cramps. At class one afternoon, I was feeling very gassy but I tried not to think about it and just focus on my practice. Mid-downward dog, the cute instructor walked behind me and gently pulled my hips back to encourage a deeper stretch. I couldn’t take it anymore and just let ’er rip—boy, was it was loud! The entire class heard, and the poor instructor was standing right behind me!  The entire class started laughing, but luckily, my fellow pregnant yogis could relate and the instructor was cool about it. But, he never adjusted my poses again!
