Easy DIY Pumpkin Lantern Craft That Is Perfect for Fall

With the arrival of fall, pumpkin crafts are a must-try for every family. It is an activity that kids and adults alike look forward to every year. While working with the actual pumpkins for Halloween is super fun, how about making DIY pumpkin lanterns with paper instead to keep the fall vibes around throughout the colder months? This craft idea is something that you and your children must try, as it is easy to make and requires only a handful of materials that will be readily available at home or a nearby store. Moreover, it saves you from all the mess you would have to clean up if you were working with a real pumpkin.

Materials

  • Orange construction paper
  • Green construction paper
  • Paper cutter
  • Scissors
  • Brads
  • String
  • Hole punch or awl

Procedure

  1. To make the DIY pumpkin lantern, take the orange paper and cut it into strips (should be about 1 inch wide).
  2. Then, take the hole punch (or awl) and punch a hole through your paper strips toward each of the ends (both ends should have a hole). Just make sure not to make the hole too close to the edge or it will rip through.
  3. Now, add a brad to one of the ends and secure it in place. However, do not make it too tight though — it will need some wiggle room.
  4. Next, spread out the strips like a wheel, keeping them as even as possible.
  5. Then, add the strips one by one to the second brad to make a ball (or pumpkin) shape.
  6. Next, loop the string around one of the brads.
  7. For the tip of the pumpkin, cut a thin strip of green paper and curl it.
  8. Then, punch a hole in one of the ends of the green strip.
  9. String the green strip to the pumpkin and secure it under the brads before tying it off. You could also add a leaf or stem to the pumpkin using the same method.
  10. Lastly, adjust the orange paper strips so they don’t have too many gaps.

Your DIY pumpkin lantern is ready to be displayed! Hang them on your porch, in your entryway, or anywhere in your house for seasonal home decor. Your kids will love this fall-worthy DIY project.
