Pinecone Witch Kid's Craft

Pinecone Witch DIY Craft

Supplies:

  • 1 pine cone
  • craft or fabric glue
  • 1 pair wiggly eyes
  • green paint
  • paint brush or foam brush
  • 1 piece green felt
  • 1 piece black felt
  • purple variegated yarn (or solid purple yarn)
  • Pinecone Witch Craft Pattern
  • black marker
  • a couple pins or paper clips
  • scissors

Instructions:

Step 1: Use a paint brush to paint the pinecone green. You may need to use a smaller detail brush to get down into the center of the pine cone. Using a small sponge brush often works well. When the pine cone is completely painted, set it aside to dry.

Step 2: While the paint is drying, print out the Pinecone Witch Craft Pattern. Cut out the pattern pieces with your scissors.

Step 3: Lay the hat top and the hat brim pattern pieces on the black felt, and trace around them with a black pen. You will just be able to faintly see the line you traced. You could also use a white fabric pen to trace the pattern pieces, if you have one.

Step 4: Cut out each piece. For the hat brim you’ll need to cut out the center circle as well, to make the brim.

Step 5: Glue the top of the hat together to make a cone shape by running a line of glue down the back seam (the straight edges) of the hat. Then, fold it into a cone shape by pulling the other edge over the glued edge to form the back seam.

Step 6: Once they’re glued hold the two edges together with a straight pin, safety pin, or a paper clip until the glue has a chance to dry.

Step 7: While the hat is drying, trace the witches nose (the triangle pattern) onto  a piece of green felt and cut it out. Put a small dollop of glue on the back of the nose at the base of the triangle in the center and pinch it together. Hold it in place to form the nose with a paper clip or pin while it dries.

Step 8: Once the paint is dry on the pinecone, add the wiggly eyes about 1/4 to 1/3 of the way down. Most wiggly eyes come with an adhesive backing, but you can also add a drop of glue to reinforce them to ensure they stay put.

Step 9: Cut about 10 pieces of purple yarn for the witches hair. The legth will depend on the size of your pincecone. Measure from one side of the pine cone to the other to see how long you want to make the strands.

Step 10: Squeeze a generous dollop of glue on the top of the pine cone and use it to stick the yarn hair on the witches head. Fold the yarn in half to find the center, and place the center right at the top of the head. Make sure all the yarn gets down into the glue so it sticks to the pine cone when it dries.

Step 11: Glue the hat brim on top of the witch’s hair by squeezing a line of glue around the bottom edge of the cone part of the hat, and laying it in place on top of the brim to form the cone part of the witches hat, as shown below:

Step 12: Keep the nose pinched in the center and add glue to the back side and glue it to the center of the pine cone witches face.

Step 14: Add a piece of purple yarn around where the hat meets the brim to cover up the seam.

Step 15: Glue on a small piece of yarn for the mouth and display your pine cone witch with your Halloween decor!
